DISTANCE LEARNING AND ONLINE COURSES

What can I study?

Online learning and online courses have become increasingly popular and in demand so it's possible nowadays to study almost anything through this method. There are a huge range of elearning courses you can take with diverse subjects such as, accounting, languages, computer technology, business management, psychology, counselling and many more. Also you can choose which level of qualification you want to achieve, from GCSE's, A-Levels, Certification, Diplomas or Degrees.

The only restrictions to online courses are subjects where there is a strong practical element involved, such as construction and mechanics, as these courses usually need the students to participate in lots of practical tests and assessments. Because of this full online training of these subjects is often not possible, however it is sometimes possible to do the written part of such courses online and then go to a local centre to complete the practical lessons.

Although you can take most courses online some subjects are more suited to online learning than others. Subjects such as business studies and computer technology are more commonly taken for online study, as they are easily adaptable and more appropriate to the techniques and technology used in the teaching of online courses. On the other hand subjects that require lots of social contact and interaction, such as counselling or biology, do not lend themselves as well to online learning due to the lack of physical interaction.

Despite this fact many providers of online programs are countering these problems by including lots of virtual social contact on the course. It is quite common to have a chat room and online discussion boards for students to talk to each other to exchange thoughts and opinions about the coursework. Some courses even make 'online group work' a part of the course, thereby making sure that some interaction between students is achieved and some form of social engagement is present.

So you can see that virtually anything that you want to learn can be done remotely via online learning and the technology and design of such courses is vastly improving all the time making just about everything possible on the confines of your computer.
