An employer will prefer which person ? One who have a degree from a distance learning program and other having the same degree from a physical university ? |
Answer 1/5 - Submitted 9/15/2011
Either of the two applicants will receive an equal opportunity to win the job opening of the employer or company. The employer may have the prerogative to favor one applicant over the other based on the background of the education system or model, but in the end the applicant who best satisfy the job requirement and qualification will stand out.
Although education is an important consideration, it is only a part and parcel of the of the overall criteria for the selection process. Other factors, such as practical know-how, attitude, skills, and abilities of the job applicant are also treated with high regard. The one who satisfactorily meet the qualification will be chosen.

Even though the degrees may be the same, most employers will respect a physical university degree over a distance learning degree. Physical universities have been around much longer so they have earned good reputations over the years. It's also likely that the hiring manager attended a physical university. Because of this, it's useful that even if you're getting a distance learning degree, choose an institution that also has a physical campus.

Hmm, my guess is.....either one. It really depends on the person interviewing. If he or she went to a distance learning program they may be partial to the candidate that did too. Or, if he or she went to the same university a candidate did, they might be more inclined to hire the candidate that reminds them of themself.
It's a toss up. It matters only if it matters to the interviewer. However, there is much to be said about the way the candidate presents himself and all his qualifications that really matters most. If you are proud of your studies, your grades, your motivation and commitment to continuing your learning, it shouldn't reflect badly in any way where you got your degree or where you studied.
However, if you are embarassed about your education and/or the online program is not accreditited or reputable or your degree or certificate is not related to the job at hand, an online degree may not be as impressive is a degree gained at a tradtitional university.
Present your best self forward and be proud of all your accomplishments and that should count more than all the details.

An employer will prefer one having gone through physical university. This is because unlike the distant mode of study,a student has to go through assignments, practicals, seminar, group discussions, case studies & has to interact one to one with the teachers, so that his mistakes can be rectified on the spot,& the same mistakes are not continued. In the distant mode this is not possible.Hence the student is more thorough, understanding, more experienced, less prone to make mistakes & an advantage to his organisation.

Most employers, given the choice of otherwise equal degrees and credentials, will choose the person who obtained their degree from the physical university. This is not to say that a distance learning program is not beneficial though, but if all things are equal the physical university graduate will most likely come out ahead of the distance learning graduate.
If it is not possible to attend a physical university a person should not hesitate to obtain a degree from a distance learning university, any degree is vital and beneficial. It is also possible to obtain an associates from a distance learning program and then to continue on towards a bachelors or even masters at a physical university, but in this scenario I would investigate the physical universities of interest to ensure they will honor the degree from the distance learning university.
If the distance learning university is one that is not an online only, is accredited and respected within the education field it can be just as valued as attending the physical university. There are a lot of factors involved when determining which is actually more beneficial. If a person does their homework by investigating which distance learning university degrees are widely accepted and honored it can be equally valuable but given the question you pose, and assuming all things otherwise are equal, the physical university degree is probably most valued by prospective employers.
