Do we still have to dial 1? With more communities in the US going to 10-digit dialing, is it still necessary to put a "1" in front of a toll number? Can you even recognize "long distance" any more? My own state had two area codes when I moved here twenty-some years ago, next year we'll be at eight. |

These days I have no idea whether I'll have to dial the 1 or not. I do know I have to use it in front of a toll-free number. Things are changing so fast. Some of my friends and family who live out of state I can call using only 7 digits, while others living right down the road require all 11 digits
